We applaud 2024 Change Grantee Goolum Goolum Aboriginal Co-operative, whose Yallum Yallum Elders and Respected Persons Council was featured last week on ABC Victoria’s 7pm News Bulletin, and ABC News Online.
Located in the Grampians Region, Yallum Yallum seeks to divert Aboriginal community members away from the criminal justice system. It promotes cultural healing, social and emotional wellbeing, and a stronger role in culture and community.
Last year we awarded Goolum Goolum $800,000 over 3 years to refine the Yallum Yallum justice model – developed with support from RMIT’s Centre for Innovative Justice – with a view to expanding beyond the Grampians.
About our Change Grants
Change Grants are part of the Victorian Legal Services Board’s (VLSB) broader grants program, which has awarded 324 grants totalling more than $78 million since 2007, making our justice system fairer and more accessible for everyone.
Change Grants provide funding for individual projects by not-for-profit organisations that aim to address issues or gaps limiting people’s access to justice, enabling them to test new ideas and advocate for systemic change. By providing organisations with the funding they need to do their vital work, VLSB promotes innovation in service delivery, policy and law reform, helping to reduce disadvantage in Victoria when it comes to access to justice.
