VLSB+C receives Scope communication accreditation

29 July 2025

We have been named as a Communication Access Approved Organisation by disability service provider, Scope Australia.

This accreditation means that we have passed a communication access assessment, allowing us to display Scope’s Communication Access Symbol.

Scope is one of Australia’s largest not-for-profit disability service providers. It supports thousands of people with complex intellectual, physical and multiple disabilities. The organisation pioneered communication access tools and has been providing these to people with disabilities for decades.

With 1 in 7 Australians likely to experience a communication difficulty at some point in their lives, this accreditation will allow us to communicate more effectively with this cohort of customers. Victorian Legal Services Board CEO and Commissioner, Fiona McLeay said being accredited by Scope was a significant milestone for VLSB+C.

“This accreditation will help us continue to fulfil our commitment to provide an accessible service to all Victorians,” Ms McLeay said. “Importantly, the Scope training has provided my staff with the knowledge and skills to feel confident to communicate with people with diverse communication needs, increasing our reach and supporting more Victorians with legal information and advice. I’m thankful to our staff and Scope for their dedication along this journey.”

Kate MacRae, CEO of Scope, echoed this, sharing that people with communication difficulties face unique challenges, including in interactions with lawyers and other legal professionals. “We commend the VLSB+C team on their commitment to ensuring their important services are accessible to everyone in the community,” she said.

As part of the journey to accreditation, VLSB+C staff received customised training from Scope and a set of specialised communication tools and resources. Customer service teams are now fully trained and have the resources they need to help everyone to communicate effectively and get their message across, including any members of the legal profession who may need it.
